Hvala Hvar!

Sunbathing on a boat in the Adriatic

Two weeks in the Croatian sunshine was just what we needed!

We went away to celebrate Tom's mum's birthday (it's a special one) and the whole White clan were there with their partners.

We spent the bulk of it in a villa in the south of Hvar island, just outside of Sveta Nedilja. It was idyllic. You have two ways of getting to this part of Hvar: by car through a one-laned tunnel in pure darkness, or by boat. This creates a fantastic setting with fisherman bringing in their daily catch, ringing a bell as they reach the shore and residents running down with their Kunas to buy dinner for that evening. The local supermarket was no bigger than our living room; wine was produced locally and going to the beach was like being in a 19th Century novel.

To celebrate the mother-in-law's birthday, I had booked Zori restaurant on the beach of Palmizana, a bay on one of the Pakleni islands. This really was a highlight as the only way to get there was by speed boat. This started off a fantastic evening of great food and wine, before getting another speed boat home again. The stars were out that night - we'd never seen the sky so clear.

We ended the holiday with a night in Dubrovnik, which is always a treat. If you haven't been, you must go!

Now to plan our next holiday...
